What Counts as a Meal?

Did you miss last week’s LIVE on YouTube? Here it is!

The concept of meals can be a bit tricky, don’t you think? We’ve all been bombarded with societal norms and conflicting advice. From the classic “three meals a day” mantra to the trendy “six meals a day” rule touted by fitness gurus, it’s easy to get lost in the noise.

But here’s the thing—I want you to challenge those norms. Question why you believe what you believe about meals. Are three meals truly necessary, or is it just a cultural construct? Does eating six times a day really boost your metabolism, or is it more about mindful nourishment?

Since the ’70s, the food industry has done a bang-up job of convincing us that snacking is essential.

Think about it—snack foods are everywhere, from school events to church gatherings.

But what if we paused for a moment and reconsidered our snacking habits?

Last week, we discussed how every morsel we eat triggers a response in our bodies, regardless of whether it’s a “proper” meal or a quick snack. Our bodies don’t discriminate—they treat all food the same way, releasing insulin to store those calories.

And guess what?

Excess calories get stored as fat.

So, what’s the takeaway here? Every time you eat, your body goes into storage mode. But when you give yourself longer breaks between meals, you give your body a chance to tap into those stored fat reserves—a concept known as fasting.

Now, I’m not here to preach about fasting or dictate your eating schedule.

Instead, I want to empower you to make mindful meal choices. Whether you’re reaching for a balanced plate of veggies and protein or grabbing a quick snack, ask yourself: Is this nourishing my body and soul?

By reframing your mindset around meals, you can break free from feelings of deprivation and scarcity. Instead of thinking, “I haven’t eaten all day,” you’ll start saying, “I chose to nourish myself with intention.” And trust me, that shift in perspective can make all the difference on your weight loss journey.

If you want to dive deeper into this conversation or explore how I can support you on your journey, head over to my website at www.dandreachristianparks.com. I’d love to connect with you one-on-one.

Until next time, stay blessed and keep nourishing that beautiful body and soul of yours.
