Why Can’t I Lose Weight? #3

Hey, girl! You’re here and I’m thrilled to see you. We’ve got good stuff to cover today and I can’t wait to get started!

This is week three of our “Why Can’t I Lose Weight” series and so far we’ve talked about two big things that we do (often unconsciously) that sabotage our weight loss. In week 1 we talked about the lack of belief that stops us from the total commitment we need to achieve permanent weight loss, and in week two we talked about the sneaky ways we quit on our plan so we can’t possibly succeed. If you missed those posts and videos, go get ’em – you need ALL the tools in your toolbox to win this weight loss battle!

This week I want to talk about diet-hopping. We learn very early that the way to lose weight is to get on a diet. As we grow, we learn there’s never a lack of the latest and greatest new diet guaranteed to “melt the fat away without ____” (you can fill in the blank. Make any promise you can think of). So we jump from diet to diet, hoping and becoming discouraged when the scale goes up and down over and over again. And over time, we gain a few more pounds every time we gain the weight back again.

You get the problem, right?

Diets are not meant to solve the problem of being overweight permanently. At best, they’re temporary fixes. But I haven’t met a woman yet who wanted to lose weight and then gain it all back and then some. Not never.

Any diet worked for someone – it’s generally the person who created it and who’s selling it now. And for them, that’s great. But when you try to put their diet on you and your own unique life, it’s like trying to put on a pair of pants that’s too tight around your waist – you can get them on but you’re not going to live in them. You can stay in those pants for a little while, but you’re gonna have to change out of them into something that you can live your life in. Those pants just don’t fit – and neither does someone else’s diet.

If you’re one of those folks who’ve been on diet after diet, I want to say one thing to you: I’m proud of you. I mean it. Dieting is hard work and anyone who can try over and over again is a strong individual.

I also want you to know that it’s not your fault that you haven’t been successful (yet) with permanent weight loss. The best tool you were offered in the past is inadequate. But just because a diet is a poor tool doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with you OR that weight loss isn’t possible.

You just need a different toolkit.

What you need is an eating plan that fits your unique life. You can choose any eating style you like and lose weight – plant-based, keto, low-carb, Mediterranean, intermittent fasting (I could keep going, but you get it). The key is figuring out how to make that plan fit your life and your body. Once you get that, it’s smooth sailing – the weight comes off, and you stay at your goal weight without struggle.

But how do you build that plan? That customized, personalized, exclusive, built-for-you plan?

You have two options. One, build it yourself with trial and error. You try different things until you find your secret sauce recipe. You can do it! It may take you some time, but you’ll figure it out. It’s your life and no one knows it better than you. There’s one issue with this approach – it’s hard to see your own blind spots. We aren’t usually aware of why we self-sabotage, which makes it hard to stop. So how do you know what you’re doing that’s stopping you from being successful, even when you have an eating plan you’d like to stick with?

That brings you to option two – Get expert help. There’s absolutely no reason that you have to figure this out on your own. Losing weight requires you to create a good plan AND stick to it. And for most of us, it’s the “stick-to-it” part that’s tricky. That’s where having support and accountability makes all the difference. Yes, I help my clients build their personalized eating plan, but the big changes happen when we work on the blind spots and roadblocks and self-sabotage that’s happening under the surface. Moving those obstacles out of the way is why my clients lose weight for good. It’s a beautiful thing to watch, and even more fun for my clients as they enjoy the process of losing weight!

You’re ready for permanent weight loss. All you need is help. You help so many people in your life and I know you believe that they deserve the help you offer. You’re worthy of help and support too! Don’t deprive yourself of what you need to make your goal a reality. Schedule your consultation on my calendar and let’s work together to get you to your permanent weight loss goal!
