Stop FIGHTING for Your Weight Loss

I’m glad you’re here – you are welcome here. Come on in and rest here for a few moments. This time you’re taking to read is for you…

Today, I want to delve into a thought-provoking concept that might just revolutionize the way we approach weight loss. You know, the constant struggle, the battles with willpower, the feeling of fighting against our own bodies – what if it didn’t have to be this way?

Picture this: What if instead of seeing weight loss as an enemy to conquer, we viewed it as an opportunity to slow down, to invite Christ into our struggles, and to breathe deeply in His presence? This idea struck me as I delved into a fascinating new book the Spirit led me to, called “Breath as Prayer.”

The essence of this concept is profound. It’s about using our breath, coupled with scripture, to navigate through emotions, particularly anxiety. Now, you might wonder, what does this have to do with weight loss? It’s coming – keep reading…

Consider the emotions we often wrestle with – stress, anxiety, fatigue. We’ve become accustomed to numbing them with food. And yes, it works – temporarily. But in the long term, it only compounds the issue, leading to extra weight and frustration.

But what if we approached weight loss differently? What if, instead of engaging in a constant battle, we surrendered to the Father, trusting in God’s plan for us? What if we let go of the notion that we have to fight this weight loss battle alone?

Imagine waking up each morning and surrendering anew, throughout the day, relinquishing our will to a higher purpose. It’s not about battling cravings or resisting temptations; it’s about inviting God into the conversation, into every decision we make regarding food and nourishment.

I recently came across a powerful quote from the book “Breath as Prayer” by Jennifer Tucker, which beautifully encapsulates this idea: “Weight loss is not an enemy you need to fight; it is an opportunity to slow down and invite Christ into your struggle.”

What if we approached weight loss with this mindset? What might change for you if instead of reaching for more willpower each time you wanted to eat when you didn’t need food, you turned to God and asked what He would have you do?

We have lots of tools for weight loss – meal planning, nutrition science, modern psychology, and new insights into neurobiology.  They’re all available and useful. I use them all with my clients!
