Are you struggling with weight loss and wondering if it’s okay to use those new GLP-1 medications everyone’s talking about? Well, you’re not alone! As a Christian OBGYN and weight loss coach, I’ve been hearing this question a lot lately. It’s time we had a heart-to-heart about faith, weight loss, and yes, those GLP-1 meds!
Did you know that 1 in 8 Americans has tried a GLP-1 medication? That’s huge! But it’s also raising some eyebrows in our Christian communities. Is it cheating? Is it vain?
Let’s dive in and figure this out together!
God’s Role in Our Weight Loss Journey
Jesus is Lord Over All – Even Our Eating Habits!
Folks, let’s get real for a second. If we believe Jesus is Lord, that means He’s Lord over everything – including what and how we eat.
It’s not just about avoiding big sins; it’s about how we live our whole lives. That includes how we treat our bodies, which are temples of the Holy Spirit!
You might be thinking, “But how do I involve God in something as worldly as weight loss?” Great question! It’s all about aligning our choices with God’s will for our lives. This means:

- Praying for guidance in our health decisions
- Treating our bodies with respect

The GLP-1 Dilemma: Medicine or Shortcut?
What Are GLP-1 Medications?
GLP-1 medications are just that – medications. They’re not magic pills or sinful shortcuts. Think of them like blood pressure meds, but for weight loss. This particular group of medications helps reduce cravings, make you feel full faster, and slow down how fast food moves out of your stomach. They can help, but they’re not the whole solution. If you do nothing but take the medication, you’re likely to lose around 5% of your current body weight and no more.
Here’s the deal: Using a GLP-1 medication isn’t cheating or taking the easy way out. It’s a tool, just like any other medication. The key is how we use it and what we do alongside it.
Beyond the Shot: The Real Work of Weight Loss
Addressing the Root Causes
GLP-1s can help with cravings and portion control, but they can’t fix everything. We still need to deal with why we overeat in the first place. Is it stress? Boredom? Emotions? That’s where
the real work comes in!
The heart of Christian weight loss is submitting everything to God – including those late-night cravings and stress-eating habits. It’s about learning to turn to God instead of food for comfort.
