The Simplicity of Weight Loss

Today, we’re continuing our discussion on simplifying weight loss. I want to emphasize that while weight loss isn’t easy, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Many of us juggle jobs, children, and caring for aging parents, leaving little room for hours of meal-prepping and exhaustive workout routines. You might not want to sacrifice the important things in your life for a complex weight loss plan. The way I teach weight loss, you don’t have to!

Weight Loss: Simplified

The process of losing weight is straightforward when we focus on the essentials. It’s about creating a sustainable system that fits into your life, helping you to lose weight and honor God with your body. It’s time to stop using food to manage emotions, stress, and frustration. Instead, let’s treat our bodies with the respect and kindness they deserve.

Aligning with God’s Design

For those of us committed to our faith, our bodies are temples given to us by God. Honoring God with our bodies means not separating our mental life from our physical life. God designed our mind and body to work together, and we should respect that connection.

A Key Scripture for Our Journey

Let’s anchor our discussion in Ephesians 4:22-24: “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

This scripture guides us in transforming our habits and aligning our actions with God’s will. One habit we can eliminate to simplify weight loss is eating for occasions.

The Habit of Eating for Occasions

From a young age, many of us were taught to use food for comfort or celebration. Whether it was a snack to soothe a rough day or pizza after a game, these habits have stuck with us into adulthood. Celebrations often involve food, whether it’s a party, a friend’s anniversary, or any special event.

But here’s the thing: Eating should be based on hunger, not just because it’s an occasion. When we honor God with our eating, we pay attention to the hunger and fullness signals He designed in our bodies. This means eating when we’re hungry and stopping when we’re full. If we eat just because it’s an occasion, we disconnect from these signals and end up overeating.

Breaking the Habit

When you attend a celebration, try this: Have a glass of water or sparkling water with lemon instead of food. If someone asks, simply say, “I’m not hungry right now; I might have some later.” Most people won’t notice or be concerned.

Planning is key. If you want to eat at an event, arrange your meals so that you’re genuinely hungry when you arrive. This is part of the work I do with my clients, helping them to align their eating habits with their lifestyle and faith.
