Your Complicated Plan Is Blocking Your Weight Loss

Hey there, welcome! We’ve been talking about simplifying weight loss. It’s hard though – we’re SO used to trying to lose weight with complex plans that it feels off to trust a simple plan. But those complex plans are getting in the way of your weight loss success! So, grab a seat, and let’s break it down.

First, if you’ve been following a strict plan, investing your time, energy, and maybe even your hard-earned money, and it’s not delivering the results you hoped for, I want you to know something—it’s not your fault. Seriously, let’s start there.

For those of you who are new here, I’m Dr. Andrea Christian Parks. I’ve been a practicing OBGYN for two decades, and I’m also a life and weight loss coach. My mission is to help women of faith lose weight permanently by following the wisdom of God’s design of the body (and all the science behind it).

Now, let’s talk about these overly complicated weight loss plans. Why do we cling to them when they’re not working for so many of us? Well, for starters, we’ve been conditioned by diet culture to believe that a successful weight loss journey must involve following a rigid plan with countless rules and restrictions.

But here’s the truth: those rules aren’t necessary, and they might actually be holding you back. Every body is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. That’s where individualization comes in.

Think about it—Jesus himself challenged the rigid rules of his time. He advocated for a simpler, more compassionate approach. In Matthew 11:30, he said, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” That’s the mindset we need to succeed at weight loss.

Let me share a story about one of my clients. She had been struggling with yo-yo dieting for years, bouncing between weight loss and regain. But when we simplified her approach, focusing on listening to her body’s hunger signals, everything changed. Suddenly, she wasn’t struggling to follow a complex plan and the weight was falling off. She’s 80 pounds down and she asked me how she was going to keep the weight off when she reached her goal since she didn’t have a plan. But she DOES have a plan (we created it together!)- she just had incorporated it so easily into her life that it didn’t feel like work!

So, what’s the key to simplifying weight loss? It’s all about focusing on one thing: hunger. God designed our bodies to signal when we need fuel, and it’s our job to listen and respond accordingly. Forget counting points, measuring portions, or following strict meal schedules. Instead, tune in to your body and eat when you’re physically hungry.

How do you do that?

Pray.

Surrender.

Listen and WAIT for that physical hunger signal. It’s a simple yet powerful way to honor God with your body and pave the way for sustainable weight loss.

Thanks for joining me today. I can’t wait to continue simplifying weight loss with you in the next post. Until then, remember to honor God with your body by waiting for hunger. See you soon!
